I’m sure you’ve all been following our unbelievably tragic news from Minnesota. I am deeply saddened that State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband have died and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were injured in this horrific attack.
I didn’t know Representative Hortman but was lucky enough to hear her speak at the DFL State Conventions I attended and most recently when volunteering for my State Representative David Gottfried. She was incredible.
I first met Senator Hoffman when I went through Partners in Policymaking 8 years ago. I was 18 years old and trying to figure out this whole adulting thing. Every time I ran into Senator Hoffman when I’d be testifying or doing something or other at the Capitol, he’d rush over, greet me, and make time to talk to me and find out how I was doing. He does so much for people with disabilities and I don’t know… I just don’t know what to say beyond I’m sad. I’m stunned. I don’t know how to feel because this isn’t supposed to happen. It’s all too horrific.
I’m sending all kinds of hope and love to both the Hortman and Hoffman families, friends, and all those who are grieving and trying to make sense out of this whole thing.
There is a GoFundMe set up for the Hoffman family: https://gofund.me/d32d540d

Beautiful tribute! I’ve been sick to my stomach ever since yesterday.

What a remarkable champion for people with physical challenges.
Have you ever met his daughter, who I heard has spina bifida and was protected by her mom yesterday?
