What a year!

This is the end of year wrap. The thing that excited me most this past year, besides AFC Wimbledon getting promoted, was finishing the first draft of my thrilling romantasy novel. There’s also been a fair amount of worry and feeling as if the precarious Jenga tower of services I depend on to live in my community is about to fall down.

Writing

I am rewriting the first three sections of a thrilling, dark romantasy set two years before the pandemic. I finished the first draft in October. I have a feeling that this draft will be longer as I have additional chapters to write and rework some character arcs. I hope to have the first three sections done by February.

Reading

Started the year reading Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (excellent dragons and sassy female leads) and finished the year reading the short story collection, Tailored Realities, from Brandon Sanderson (awesome and hilarious). My favorite book in the YA shelves would have to be Coldwire by the delightful Chloe Gong (can’t wait for the sequel).

Advocacy

I don’t feel hopeful about living independently. Stated it clearly in my last blog post about what Minnesota is doing in response to fraud and how that may impact the services I use. Also, just found out my SNAP food benefits for the next year are lower than expected thanks to cuts at the federal level. Not sure what else to say except get involved, vote in the midterm elections, stay informed, and make your voice heard. I know I will!

See you next year
