I went to the Good Trouble Lives On Twin Cities rally in Minneapolis on July 17, 2025. I wasn’t going to go at first, but then found out my friends, Judy and Raven Moe were going to be speaking, so changed my mind super quick!
Honestly, it’s been a rough month finding out that Medicaid and SNAP were cut so drastically in the federal budget bill. These are programs that me, and others with disabilities, depend on to survive! Literally survive!
As Judy says in her speech embedded below, “There is no way that I can express to you, the level of fear that we and other people with disabilities have been living under due to the enormous cuts to Medicaid that are coming down the pike.” Let’s keep fighting together and shining the light of truth to right the wrongs!
By the way, I just got my multiple packets of paperwork this week that I need to fill out every year to receive Medicaid (Medical Assistance in MN), SNAP, and my housing voucher. Last year, my county was behind in processing the Medical Assistance renewals and I went without it for three weeks – right as i was transitioning from my parent’s medical insurance because I turned 26. It was pretty scary and I was very worried that my agency that provides support staff could have discontinued my needed staff during that time. What in the hell will counties do when “able-bodied” Medicaid recipients have to prove they meet requirements every 6 months? Don’t doubt that people with disabilities will be impacted by the cuts to Medicaid. The cuts are not going to make this complex system work any better!
Read more about the state of MN’s cuts to Medical Assistance this past legislative session. Here’s my post about a Minnesota Star Tribune article a couple weeks ago where Judy and Raven Moe, and I were interviewed: Newsy stuff
