GO TEAM PEGGY

Can I just say how excited I was when I heard that Peggy Flanagan decided to join the race to be my next US Senator from Minnesota?

I met Peggy in 2018 when she was running to be my Lt. Governor – I was a 19-year old kid who was super interested in politics. I was going through Partners in Policymaking and learning a ton about disability history, services, and advocacy. I took what I learned and put it to work and just kept raising my hand. I raised my hand to be a delegate from our Senate District Convention all the way to the State Convention that year.

Here’s what I absolutely love about Peggy Flanagan – she makes time to listen, to understand the issues, and stands up and fights for what’s right. Do you know how much it means to be seen and to be heard? Whenever Peggy sees me, she makes her way over and finds out how it’s going and how I’m doing. She cares if there are cuts to Medicaid for people like me with disabilities or for my grandma who lives in assisted living. She knows that things like SNAP benefits and affordable housing matter. These are just a couple of the issues that directly impact me and I need Peggy fighting for me in Washington!

I just listened to her interview on Pod Save America and it was awesome. If you don’t know who Peggy Flanagan is, listen to that interview. She started off volunteering with Senator Paul Wellstone when she was about the same age, I was when I met her. She means it when she says Paul Wellstone’s famous quote, “we all do better, when we ALL do better!” That includes for people with disabilities, like me.

Do you know what? I’m a delegate for Peggy Flanagan for the Minnesota DFL State Convention this year. I’ve got my shirt, I’ve got my banner, and I’ve got my pins – I am excited and proud to be on Team Peggy!
